About Us

The Imperative is a global fund dedicated to the wealth health and connection of Black people.
We fund innovative projects across the African diaspora.


The Imperative, Inc. is a registered 501 C3 charitable foundation based in the U.S. The fund was launched in 2020
to make an urgent call to philanthropic leaders that we can, and must, support the creativity and innovation
coming through the non-profit sector in black communities globally. We firmly believe, if you help those in need,
everyone benefits. And we have already begun seeing positive results from our funded partnerships.

Our Strategy Areas


Our strategy areas are not stand-alone investment areas,

but mirroring traditional African societies, they are circular.

Each area impacts the other and neither can be addressed in isolation.


  • Wealth

    The Imperative fund strategies that can catalyze ethical wealth creation in the US, Africa, and throughout the African Diaspora.

  • Health

    The Imperative will fund projects that positively impact the psychological, emotional and physical ability for Black people to operate optimally.  Our work seeks to invest in creative ways to minimize the impact of chronic, generational stress by funding programs that build the esteem and capacities of Africans and Afro-descendants.

  • Connection

    In order to support each other, we must see each other. The Imperative supports projects that strengthen historical, cultural, social and economic connections in the US, Africa, and the Diaspora.
