We are building a new philanthropic institution solely focused on promoting the Wealth, Health and Connectedness of Black people. We are establishing a permanently endowed fund to make strategic investments that improve wealth and health while increasing the social and economic ties of Black people globally.

Our Roles

In addition to our role as a funder and investor, The Imperative will also serve in the following capacities in philanthropy:

  • Convener – we will regularly build relationships and bring stakeholders together to identify both immediate and long-term needs for the culture. In coming together, we will learn about best practices and strategize on a united path forward for Black people
  • Collaborator – we will regularly create and seek opportunities to collaborate with other philanthropies, public and private sectors to achieve our stated mission.
  • Communicator – we will use our role within philanthropy to express ideas that give people cover to address issues in our communities without fear of loss of funding. Our research, publications and investments will serve as direction to those wanting to support the interests of Black people
